Inside the ACE Edit Fest LA 2019
I had the opportunity to attend the American Cinema Editors Edit Fest LA 2019, with tickets provided by @MastertheWorkflow! It was an amazing experience inside the Disney Studios lot. If you want to know what went on keep reading!
The first talk was with Joshua O. Miller, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of C&I Studios, "Blackmagic Design Presentation". He talked about the features of DaVinci Resolve and how he post-produced a Christmas movie entirely with the software, having multiple editors working on different scenes at the same time, colorists, audio mixers, from different places of the world, taping into the media that was living in the company's hard drives remotely!
He had the idea for the film in December, finished shooting on December 7th and had the first premiere on December 15th! With such a tight turnaround he says that the auto sync feature on Resolve was a great advantage (especially compared to the way this is done on Adobe Premiere). Also being able to work on audio and color while picture wasn't locked and the Remote Rendering Feature, that allows you to send the rendering to another computer and be able to continue your editing work, also helped the team move fast and meet the deadline.
He advised to not buy the DaVinci Resolve version being sold at the Apple store, and everyone laughed in agreement, but I don't use Resolve and couldn't find the reason by doing a search, let me know if you know why this is in the comments!
This was such an amazing event! Next I'll be talking about the first panel of the day, "From the cutting room to the red carpet - ACE Award Nominees Discuss Their Esteemed Work", with editors from the movie Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, the show Insecure and others.
